Be a part of 2 Weeks Special Volunteer Program in Portugal and contribute towards the fight against food waste and hunger. As a volunteer, you will participate in a project that simultaneously rescues healthy food from going to waste and feeds thousands of people every day. In 2 weeks you will have the opportunity to get to know better Lisbon and Porto, and have a 2 days amazing experience at Berlengas island in Peniche.
This program would be a perfect choice for high school, college, and university students who are looking for a short-term volunteering program, to make the best use of their break and gain some first-hand work experience, apart from effectively contributing towards attending happiness to others' lives.
Week 1 in Lisbon - During the first week, you'll be volunteering with the local centers in Lisbon. You'll play an effective role in reducing the amount of food that is wasted by restaurants and cafes in Portugal. You'll be working with a team of other volunteers and coordinators, in order to achieve success in your endeavor.
Weekend Excursion to Peniche
Saturday - You'll travel by bus (1.30 hours) from Lisbon to Peniche, for an amazing weekend with a diving retreat. The diving school will pick you up at the bus station. You'll be taken by boat to the Berlengas, the first Natural Reservation of the country, and one of the most beautiful ones, where you'll be guided about the fundamentals of scuba diving. You can enjoy the afternoon resting on the island or visiting the Fortress ruins.
Sunday - Set out for a dive in Peniche/Berlengas. Transfer to the bus station and take the bus to Porto (2 hours). The local team in Porto will pick you up at the bus station and take you to the accommodation.
Week 2 in Porto - After a refreshing weekend, continue with the Fight Against Food Waste in Porto and volunteer in a center in Gaia. All the volunteers of this program will also be contributing towards eradicating poverty and reducing inequalities.
Weekdays: After the initial orientation of the first project day, you will volunteer around 3 to 5 hours per weekday.
Note: Dinner at the volunteer accommodation together with the other volunteers. After dinner, you will have the remainder of the evening free to relax and use as you wish.
During Week 1, you'll be accommodated at one of the most sustainable hostels in Lisbon! There are various communal areas such as dining room, living room, fully-equipped kitchen, two balconies with sofas and hammocks and a big terrace to relax or participate in different kin. There are free Yoga classes three times a week! The uniqueness of this hostel lies in its sustainability concept - that aims towards a circular economy.
You'll be provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the House, every day. Our Impact moms will cook with fresh local ingredients every day for all volunteers and they are prepared to accommodate most diet restrictions such as vegan and vegetarians, gluten-free and lactose intolerant.
Volunteers in Porto will be accommodated in a guest house that offers a comfortable stay. Located in Vila Nova de Gaia, just one kilometer from Porto city center, you will have a mixed-gender dorm with 7 beds with basic furniture and natural light. It is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, just one kilometer from Porto city center. There are small shops and restaurants in the area. All rooms have shared a bathroom. There is free Wifi in all the rooms.
There is a fully equipped kitchen for use of all the guests where you can store and prepare food as they wish. You’ll also have ample opportunity to step out and try out the amazing restaurants in the vicinity.
Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the time of joining the project and should be active, responsible and ready to act. A parental consent form shall be required for Under 18 participants joining the program. All volunteers must provide a clean criminal background check report prior to joining the program.
