Be a volunteer for the Medical Volunteering Program in Vietnam and serve those who need your care & love. Essentially designed for pre-med, medical and nursing students, this program will enable you to work at the Centre of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation of the Disabled. Most of the center functions similar to a hospital, with various rooms for different treatment but also includes a day-care room for disabled children where they can also receive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
This healthcare program in Vietnam provides skilled medical professionals and students the chance to experience a new culture and working environment while developing their specialized medical knowledge, all at the same time. It is important to note that as a volunteer, you will not be allowed to partake in serious medical procedures and will be shadowing and observing the procedures. However, depending on the volunteer’s level of experience, skills and confidence level they may observe operations, provide assistance in basic procedures.

As a volunteer for the medical & healthcare program, you'll have the following roles & responsibilities, depending on your knowledge & experience:
Note for volunteers: Only students from their 3rd & 4th year, having relevant professional experience & knowledge can assist in the surgeries. The schedule depends on the Hospital, and it’ll probably be for once or twice during the voluntary period.
Volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City are supposed to arrive on the program start date i.e First or Third Thursday of the month. The general schedule is as follows:
Working hours: From 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (Mon – Fri) with a lunch break from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.
Working again 1.30pm – 4.30 pm. This is a tentative schedule and can vary.
Note: The minimum program duration to join this program is two weeks and the participants work for around 20 hrs per week on an average.
Volunteering Solutions endeavors to provide the best of the comfort and living standards to its volunteers in Vietnam.
Volunteers are picked up from Tan Son Nhat International Airport by the local coordinator or representative. Those volunteers who are arriving overland or are already in Vietnam will be picked up at a meeting point decided beforehand.
Volunteers are provided with accommodations in a four storey volunteer house along with other volunteers in Phu Nhuan district of Ho Chi Minh City. The accommodation provides best with other volunteers and the homes have got modern facilities available such as Air Conditioning in the rooms during the night, Wireless Internet, TV, Fridge, and Washing Machine. The location is convenient for bus connections and endeavors to the city center and projects. There are four big bedrooms over two top floors with the capacity of hosting up to 24 persons at a time. Normally, rooms best of for about 1-4 volunteers per room. In the busy time, the number can be maximum either 8 or 5 volunteers per room in five or three bunk beds respectively. Bedding is provided to the participants and bathrooms are shared per floor with shower (hot and cold water) and toilet.
There are one permanent cook and one part-time cook who prepare a wide variety of delicious and authentic Vietnamese dishes with locally sourced, fresh, and daily produced ingredients.
All volunteers are given an by the local staff in Ho Chi Minh city on the next day after arrival. Areas like culture, greetings, locations, transportation, safety, and volunteer placements are given during the orientation.
Volunteers are provided with three cooked meals a day. Local Vietnamese food is with to the volunteers and the meals are cooked by the local cooks at the house. Meals consist of Rice, noodles, soups, chicken, meats, vegetables etc. Vietnamese cuisine is influenced from different Asian countries such as Thailand, China, and Cambodia.
During your Free Time
Volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City can visit the Mekong Delta on a weekend tour. There is a lot to do during the free time and you can explore the city on your own.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the project. You need to have an open mind and a flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. Participants must be fit and healthy at the time of joining the program. Participants should have no criminal convictions and should provide a clean criminal background check report.
It is advised to apply for the projects once the volunteering/ traveling dates are decided as there are limited spots available. The application fee is valid for one full year and can be sent earlier than the desired year of volunteering for timely confirmation of the seat. As soon as you decide the travel dates, we suggest you to apply for the program and hold your spot.
The earlier you apply, the better it is, as you would get more time to be prepared for your program in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and complete the necessary documentation, Visa formalities as well as take the vaccinations in time.
