Namibia, undoubtedly, is an enchanting country and there's so much to do that you might just fall short of time. The volunteering project location is extremely beautiful in itself and remote and you can enjoy the nature and wildlife. But in case you are enthusiastic enough to head out and explore, here are a few options that you can choose from!

The Kalahari Desert is one of the largest sandy deserts in the world and spans across national borders. Their image is marked by the characteristic red sand and the Okavango River delta. Here you can, because of the year-round water, many animals to face. Large parts of the Kalahari are declared nature reserves. The daytime temperature is usually above 30 ° C, but at night the thermometer can sink below 0 ° C. There are comparatively many rains in the Kalahari, so the best travel time is from April to October. While volunteering in the animal welfare project in Gobabis , you will live on the edge of the Kalahari.

The capital of Namibia has a modern city center, with buildings from German colonial times and large, modern shopping malls, where you can get almost everything. On your excursions, you can also visit Namibia's national museum. Windhoek is a city full of energy, which is particularly noticeable in the district of Katutura. There you can pay a visit to the colorful Herero market.

FAQ's Application and Program Details

As we have limited spots available in our programs and we serve on first come first basis, it is recommended that potential volunteers book their programs well in advance to get confirmed placements. You can book your slot by filling the application form online and pay the application fee. You can pay your program fee later and also, in instalments, however, the complete payment should be made 45 days prior the start of the program.  If you are volunteering in a group, you can also fill a group application form.

After you complete your application, your personalized ‘My Account’ will be active.You will need to upload your CV/Resume along with your photo in the same. Our backend team and the placement site takes around 10-12 days to review your application. After we review your CV and documents, your booking is confirmed and booking confirmation is updated in your ‘My Account’. Some projects need a mandatory criminal background check and the same is mentioned in the project info of your program. Approval of your application depends on your qualification and eligibility criteria for each project and availability. Applications within a short notice of the program start date are also accepted and we can confirm your trip booking in a short period of time as well by expediting your application process.

Every program has certain and prerequisites that are required to be fulfilled by the volunteers. Please refer to the respective program page for the detailed requirements.

We encourage our participants to volunteer in a group. We take special care in providing you a placement and customize your itinerary to make sure you get exactly what you are looking for. Also, we can design special group programs for groups of 5 or more. Our programs are designed to be safe, affordable and offer a great group volunteering experience to the volunteers.
We have enabled and facilitated volunteer program placements for student groups- college groups, university groups, high school groups, group of families, group of couples as well as groups of colleagues.


The African Animal Welfare project is located in Gobabis, located around 300 kms from the capital city of Windhoek.

Yes, we will provide you with the Certificate after successful completion of your program. The certificate is provided on request.

If you are planning to come for multiple programs in your trip, you will have to pay the application fees just once. Your application fee is valid for a year's time (from the date of application). You will not have to pay the application fees again if you come within the mentioned time frame.
For our returning volunteers, $50 discount is provided for the application fee for their next Vol Sol program.


Flights and Visa

Citizens of many countries can get visa on arrival upon arrival in Namibia at the airport. Please check with your nearest embassy for details.

Participants need to arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport at Windhoek.It is most convenient to fly into South Africa and then take a connecting flight to Windhoek. Alternatively other recommended airlines to fly with are Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Ethiopian Airlines, AirLink and FlyWest Air.

Health and Safety

Yes, for all participants, it is mandatory to have a valid travel medical insurance for their trip. Volunteers have the option to purchase Travel and Medical Insurance at a nominal extra cost from Volunteering Solutions.  To provide the best option to our participants, we offer comprehensive insurance coverage in collaboration with a leading insurance provider.
If you already have a valid Travel and Medical insurance, you can email us a copy of the same. It is also advised to bring along the Insurance documents during your trip.


Accommodation and Living

The project site is located at a distance of about 300 km from the city of Windhoek, in Namibia. The transfer from Windhoek to the project takes place only once a week, on Fridays.

If you already arrive in Namibia on Thursday, you will drive independently to your accommodation, the Chameleon Backpacker Lodge in Windhoek. Participants need to organize this trip and accommodation themselves and neither is included in the project fees. You will be picked up from the Chameleon Lodge on Friday morning. This pickup is included in the project fees. 

At the end of the project, our transfer will bring you back to Windhoek. The return transfer is always on Thursdays and arrives in Windhoek around 14:00. A flight home on the same evening would be possible.


Volunteers are accommodated in a Volunteer Village, which is approx. 800 meters from the project site. There's a volunteers' house where rooms are provided on the same gender sharing basis. Showers and shared toilets are outside the cottage. Only solar power is available at the cottage, so in case you need to charge your phone or laptop you can take that to the program site and put it on charging there.At all the accommodations, all meals are provided to the volunteers.

Yes, that is not a problem. Please let us know of any dietary requirements in advance.

Yes, you need to cover for expenses for transfer to the pickup location in Windhoek. If you will arrive in Namibia you need to cover the expenses for food and accommodation. Apart from this, you need to cover any personal expenses.
