Things To Do In India While Volunteering

In a country like India, the largest democracy in the world (by population), with deep culture, strong traditions and modern civilization, there is no dearth of opportunities to explore the country and make the trip a jubilant extravaganza. Despite being a strong and fast developing economy, the country is not untouched from the griefs of many social problems.

Mark Twain once said that, “India is a cradle of human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and constructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only.”

Volunteering solutions have many programs running in India dedicated towards community building, women empowerment, child care and health. An opportunity to Volunteer in India is a great platform to know this wonderland up close. One can indulge in various activities and go to places to explore while volunteering in India. Here is a list of a few of them.

1. Travel across the cultures

With a count of 29 states and over 1600 cities spread across the country, there are plenty of places for one to explore. You may run out of cash, time, health, but you will never run out of interest for seeing more. While major metropolitan cities, such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and many more, are there to give you a taste of fast paced life with glittering habitat, there are tier 2 cities and small towns to take you for a ride of a lifetime and display the traditional and cultural nuances.

2. Taste the heaven on a platter

India is globally known for its varied spices and taste enhancers. Your taste buds needs to be strong to handle the tang of the delicacies served from the kitchen of Indian eateries and local homes. As you go from North to down South, not only the taste, but also the way the food is cooked, the staple diet and ingredients used, vary to a distinct level; the same goes from West to East region of the country.

3. Encounter the sizzling Wildlife

India is home to some of the most flamboyant species of animals in the world. With more than 500 wildlife sanctuaries spread across various forests, there is plenty of options for one to experience the nature’s gift. Jim Corbett National Park, one of the most visited and huge sanctuary, is a short 5 hours drive from the capital city, Delhi. Ranthambore National Park, Kaziranga National Park, Gir Wildlife Sanctuary are amongst the many.

4. Sooth your ears with melodious music and entertainment

A rich blend of classical Hindustani music, with cult folk genres and modern day tunes; there is more than you would have thought to groove your body to. The classical music in India spans millennia back and still stands true to its roots. The soothing melody coming out from the traditional acoustics creates a harmonious ambience of its own. The entertainment line is held firmly by the Indian film industry and various drama theatres. Now, if you are somewhere in the south part of India and you do not find out about the great Rajnikant, you are coming back incomplete.

5. Celebrate every festival

In a secular state like India, the festivity mode is left in ON mode throughout. With the beginning of the year, the carnival goes on till the last date of that year. With the festivals of Hindu, Islam, Sikh and Christian religion; including, Diwali, Holi, Eid, Good Friday, Christmas, Lohri, Guru Purab and many more; no single month go without a state or a city dwelling into celebration.
