Journalism Internship Program in Ghana
Volunteering Solutions offers a unique opportunity for its volunteers to do an internship at a FM Radio Channel in Ghana. The program is particularly suited for those students who want to pursue their career in the field of journalism. Our electronic media program consists of placement as a new caster on a local FM station, a reporter with an FM station or a program host.
Radio internship allows you to work as volunteer with a commercial local fm radio station in Kumasi. As an intern you will get to experience a variety of roles at the station, including reading news on the air, researching news stories, interviewing newsmakers, producing segments, writing copy for the air, and attending press conferences.These internships are designed for journalism students and professionals to gain firsthand experience in journalism in Ghana. Partcipants in these programs will be required to submit their CVs for placement.

Program Requirements Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the beginning of the program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer must be pursuing be interested in making a career in journalism field. Project Location The Journalism Internship is offered in the city of Kumasi. Kumasi is located in southern central Ghana's Ashanti region. It is located near the Lake Bosomtwe, in the Rain Forest Region about 250 km (by road) northwest of Accra. Kumasi is approximately 300 miles north of the Equator and 100 miles north of the Gulf of Guinea. It is popularly known as "The Garden City" or "heart beat" of Ghana because of its many beautiful species of flowers and plants. |
| What we provide |
Airport Receive/ Transfer: You will be met by our representative at Kotoka International Airport in Accra from where you are transferred to your project location. Volunteers going will stay overnight in Accra and travel to the respective location the next day. Orientation: A half day orientation will be provided by your local coordinator. Areas like culture, safety, locations, transportation are covered in the Orientation.After your orientation is over, you will be introduced to your project. Lodging: Volunteers will be staying with a standard Ghanaian Host family. Accommodation is either provided in an individual or shared room along with other volunteer. By staying with a family you will experience the local Ghanaian culture, language customs and traditions. Food: Volunteers are provided with 2 meals (breakfast and dinner) at the host family house. Ghanaian cuisine consists primarily of starches, soups, beans, and meat and fish. The Starches consist mainly of rice and doughy balls made from mashed cassava, plantain or yams. Insurance: All participants are covered for full comprehensive travel and medical insurance for their time of stay in our project. The Pre Departure Information Booklet provides the complete details of the country, project locations, Visas, immunizations, Things to Pack list, Accommodations, Contact Information etc. In-country support: 24 hours support provided by our local staff. You will be provided with the contact details of the local coordinator and staff who will be contactable 24 hrs once you are in country. During your Free Time During the Free Time volunteers can go and visit the different places of interest in and around the city. In Kumasi, you can visit, tourist attractions like the large Kumasi Central Market, Tafo kumasi, Fort Kumasi (built by the British in 1896 to replace an Asante fort and now a museum) and the Kumasi Hat Museum. |
